Where Jazz Knowledge Travels
Understanding the Diagram
What is being visualized
The figure traces how respondents describe jazz knowledge moving from a learning environment, through a knowledge form, toward a curricular consequence. Ribbon width represents the number of current respondents coded to that exact pathway. These are exploratory respondent-theme incidences rather than population estimates.
How color works
The left half stays within the color family of its learning environment. The center knowledge-form boxes are neutral. Streams retain the learning-environment color through the center, then gradually merge into the curricular-consequence color on the right.
How to interact
Hover a stream to isolate one exact pathway. Hover a box to isolate every pathway connected to that category. Click either a stream or any left, center, or right box to lock that evidence in the right panel. Choose a respondent from the dropdown to restrict the figure to that person's coded routes. In the respondent panel, each Current coded route is also clickable. Hovering the route title signals that it is interactive, and clicking it locks that exact pathway in the figure.
Coding and evidence limits
The source export contains 18 responses through October 2, 2026. Existing v16 coding is retained. New route notes distinguish explicit evidence from provisional interpretations. Contested / respondent-specific includes responses whose site-specific curricular consequence is unclear. Blank fields are not coded as disagreement. Visibly truncated text is excluded from new quotations. The figure does not display every survey item. Category N counts unique respondents, and ribbon widths sum route incidences. Boxes have a minimum height to keep labels readable, so box height is not an additional quantitative scale. Filtering highlights one respondent’s routes while retaining full-dataset widths and category counts.
Anonymous respondents
Anonymous respondents are numbered chronologically by submission time, with the oldest anonymous submission designated Anonymous Respondent 1.
